Professional newborn portrait session with Jacksonville military family and their brand new baby boy. Navy helicopter pilot Lieutenant Scott Miller (Instructor Tactical Coordinator, Weapons Officer, and Mission Commander flying the P-8A for the United States Navy…to be exact) and his beautiful wife Jaclyn incorporated meaningful belongings from their lives to create personalized images of their new born baby James Joseph.
Creative Newborn Photography Props
When planning your newborn photography session, think about how your interests, hobbies, and profession may be used to develop a theme or idea for your photo shoot. In our example, we knew contrasting a crisp and strong looking US Military uniform against the soft innocence of a newborn would create an appealing image with strong interest. Other items used in the photo session were a blanket knitted by the baby’s great grandmother, an heirloom watch, and military dog tags. And for the blankets and baskets that were used that may have little importance now, they will become daily reminders of how much the baby has grown over the next few years.
Ideal Newborn Photography Location
Besides material items and things, another consideration for creating newborn photos is the location. We prefer to work at the clients home, since this is where everyone is most comfortable and at ease (especially newborns and “new” mommies). Choosing locations in the house such as the nursery, your bedroom, and even that special spot on the couch will make the photographs your own. Examples here, would be positioning our Mommy’s favorite chair in the nursery in front of the window where she sits on a daily basis and photographing baby James on his favorite nook on the couch where he spends his evenings relaxing with his parents.
Bringing It All Together
Spending some time thinking about how you can combine both mementos and special locations will help create compelling images, that will be reminders of the emotions and memories made during the first few weeks with your child. Don’t worry if you’re having trouble thinking of ideas, contact us and we can talk you through the process, and come up with a few ideas what will work best for you and your family.
