Adventure destination holiday wedding photography at the Plantation on Crystal River. It’s not everyday you get the chance to capture one of your best friends and fellow photographer’s Florida, swim with the manatees, kayak, sunrise, adventure wedding! Scott and Erin got married just before Christmas, kayaking in the Three Sister’s Springs, with friends and honored guests surrounding them while swimming with the manatees. Although it was a warm December morning (manatees congregate in high numbers with colder temperatures), guests were still able to see manatees swimming underfoot as bride and groom floated side by side and said their vows. The Plantation Inn and Dive Shop provided all the necessary transportation, wetsuits, and expertise for the guests before, during, and after the manatee wedding. The marina and dive shop’s captain not only participated by holding the kayak’s in position during the ceremony, but had warm drinks for guests when returning to the boat.
The support team for the wedding party, myself (the photographer), and my paddling mate Andy, was launched from A Crystal River Kayak Company. The staff was friendly and very helpful, with their launch area conveniently located near popular Three Sister’s Spring.
Being that Scott is a wedding photographer (one who has done hundreds of weddings) getting married, it only made sense that he would create one of the most logistically and environmentally difficult weddings to shoot. 🙂
- 5:00 am Photographer Arrives (dark outside)
- 6:30 am First Look (still dark outside)
- 6:45 am Launch Kayaks into water
- 7:15 am Wedding Ceremony at Spring with Guests Surrounding Bride and Groom (in water)
- 7:20 am Very very slowly maneuver in a kayak to key wedding ceremony locations
- 7:45 am paddle open water with several thousands of dollars of photographic equipment while trying to romantically pose bride and groom 🙂
- 8:30 am Back on land, continue photographing the rest of the day using my feet instead of boat.
All kidding aside, Scott and Erin’s was one of the most beautiful and definitely unique weddings I have ever seen, attended, or photographed. Most importantly the wedding weekend was a perfect fit for them, representing their adventurous spirits and love of the outdoors in a spectacular way. Looking back I could not have imagined a better wedding ceremony for either one of them! Congratulations to you both, and thank you for allowing me to photograph the start of your lives together.
If you live in Florida and have never heard of Crystal River and swimming with the manatees, you can easily add it to your bucket list. Although I personally did not get to swim, Julie and everyone else who did raved about the experience. You can’t beat the old school florida feel, food, and outdoor recreation in the Crystal Springs area. Make sure you stop by the Plantation on Crystal River, Plantation Inn and Dive Shop, and A Crystal River Kayak Company, and check out their services.
